Mindset For Success

powerlifting mindset for success

Having the Proper Mindset is the only true way to be successful.

Look at your life right now. Are you where you thought you would be 5 or 10 years ago. Maybe you are. Maybe not.

So what is that one thing that determines whether or not we become successful in life.  I think it has a lot to do with our state of mind. If you do not have a mindset for success, you are sure to fail. There is not enough luck in the world to ensure success without ambition or drive.

This letter is to those of you who want more than you have today. You want to be more successful in life, in business, in relationships… It all starts now. And it all starts with you.

Right now, this very moment, you have the power to change your circumstances. You can make the decision right now to become successful. That is the first step that we all have to take to get where we want to be. That is the first step towards a mindset for success.

From this moment forward you have to visually see yourself as being successful, and you will settle for no less.

You need to place a dollar sign on your self worth.

What does the average American household bring in? Somewhere between 30 and $50,000 a year. This is your starting point. If you make $50,000 a year from your boss, the odds are that your boss makes more than twice that from you. The offline world works that way. If your boss paid you exactly what you were worth, he would be non-profit. So lets set your first goal for self worth for double your income.

$100,000 a year comes to almost $2,000 a week. And there you go. Your first goal for your online marketing business is to make $8,000 a month inside your first year. This is not just a goal. You need to live this, breath this. It has to become a part of you, or you will never do it.

Chris On The Brain:

You’ll never take action on something you don’t believe is possible. If it feels too far off you’ll bask in the light of the dream, and live in the misery of the moment. Your mind will only act on things that it hopes to achieve.

It is time for you to truly put that dollar sign on your self worth. Every time you get your paycheck for half that amount, you will know that you will soon make what you are worth.

Sit down and put your business plan in writing.

  • What are you going to sell or promote?
  • How will you get started?
  • How much start-up capital will you need?
  • How many part time hours a week can you put in to make this a full time income?
  • Who can you get mentoring from? Surely there is someone successful that you have access to. Find a way to get information from them. Here’s the big secret that everyone tries to keep quiet… Ask.
  • Where can you get the education and training that you will need to make this happen.

These are just a few, but you could go on for hours coming up with what you will need to make this a reality.

The next step is that you can never again be satisfied with your boss paying you half of your worth. This doesn’t mean do a lousy job and mope around the house all the time. It means that it is time to get fired up. Each Friday when you get that pathetic little paycheck let it burn in you mind that you are worth at least twice this amount. Then get to work.

You cannot fail. There is no option for failure. You now know what you are worth, it is time to get it. Under no circumstances are you to let your mind wonder into thinking this is all not worth it. It is. When you reach your first goal of $8,000 a month, you will be surprised at how easy it is to jump way ahead, and shoot for 30, 40 or even $50,000 a month. You have now unlocked the door to the Mindset For Success.

That’s the great part about mindset. It is fully under your control. You mind is the only thing God created that he gave you the full power to control. So control it. Tell your mind that you are successful and it will respond accordingly.

Draw it up on a piece of paper, or a stick-it note (I suggest something bigger) and put it where you will have to look at it often. By often I mean more than just once a day. It needs to be the first thing that you go look at in the morning, and the last thing you read at night.

If you are more visual get a picture of your dream car or a boat, and write on it: “This will be mine”

The most important thing that you can do right now is to get your mind ready for the task at hand.

Not too many years ago I was a pro-qualified power lifter. Even in training, not just competitions, I had to mentally prepare for long periods of time before I started a lift.

Do you want to understand better what I mean. Go to the gym, and (with the guidance of a qualified trainer) put enough weight on a bar on the floor that you will have to really work to lift. Now Deadlift it ten times. Your first time, or few times trying this you may not get the weight right. But if you got the right amount on the bar, here’s what goes through your mind.

Rep 1: Grip the bar, lock your body, and stand until you get the tension on the bar. A few more deep breaths and lift. Every muscle in your body is pushing to stand. You make it up-right and bring back your shoulders.

Rep 2: Once you bring the bar back down, touch it lightly and start on your way back up. The sweat is now beading up on your forehead and your breathing has increased dramatically. You make the lift and bring back your shoulders.

Rep 3: Once again you lightly touch the weight to the floor and start back up it is taking all your breath, all your force and you are slowing down. You make the lift and take several deep breaths when you bring your shoulders back to the full standing position.

Rep 4: As you bring the weight down for the touch, you are already dreading the return trip. The sweat is building now and starting to bother your eyes. You start back up with everything you have. Slowly, with all of your force, you make it back to the standing position and bring back your shoulders.

Rep 5: You are still in the standing rest, taking deep breaths. You begin down, and this time the weight hits the ground with a clang instead of a light touch. You come up with everything you have and you are already wondering in your mind if you can do this five more times.

Move on to Rep 9: You bring the weight down and let it hit. You adjust your feet and breath deep several times. You are not sure if this rep is worth the effort. The sweat is burning your eyes now and deep breathing doesn’t seem to be helping the smothering feeling in your chest. In your mind you have to know that you can do this. Giving up is not and option when you have a mindset for success.

Rep 10: You drop the weight to the ground and lean your body on it. The sweat is dripping to the floor now and you feel like you have ran 2 miles. Every muscle in your body feels taxed out. You don’t know where this rep will come from. Is it worth trying? In your mind you are screaming, your eyes are burning. It is all heart from here. You begin to stand, at first the bar doesn’t come so you find more, and push harder. You give it everything you have, blowing out every ounce of air you have on the way up. Your lungs are on fire. Your legs eventually straighten, but it takes a whole other force of will to pull your shoulders back. You drop the bar to the ground, and kneel with it, trying to get back some of the breath that has left you.  Feeling almost sick to your stomach you stand and try to walk it off on limp legs, sweating profusely and breathing with your mouth wide open.

It takes a full 5 to 10 minutes to regain your breathing and get past the sick feeling in your stomach. And this was set one of four!

So you tell me. What kind of mindset does it take to complete four sets of the single hardest lift you can make in the gym.

It takes a total mindset for success. People don’t do this for kicks, they do it for the win. To win in powerlifting you have to be willing to hurt on purpose. That’s why you don’t see many in the gym. They don’t come during peak hours to show off their bench press after waiting in line 30 min to use the bench. The only time they show off is when it counts. The rest of the time it hurts.

By now you’re probably wondering why I ever lived that lifestyle. If I didn’t show off in the gym, what was the point of lifting so much weight. Well, here’s the kicker. People know. They know when they look at you, who you are. You can’t fake confidence. And when you reach that level, you don’t feel the need to show off. You know what you’re worth, and you won’t settle for less. Now matter what you have to go through.

Now I know powerlifting is an extreme case of the power of the mind, but hey, I could have went with those buddhist guys who poke giant hooks through their skin. Mind over matter, right?

Here is what you need to take away from this.

If you don’t allow things to keep you from your goals, you are unstoppable. Sometimes things may slow you down, and sometimes you may find yourself wondering if it is worth it. But if you have the right goals, and go in with the right mindset, you will get there.

Remember when I said there were three more sets. What do you think goes on in the mind of a power lifter between set 3 and 4. He doesn’t wander around and talk to the other gymrats. He gets his mind right. He focuses, no, he zero’s in on the goal. The only thing in his mind is the win. The win he will get not today, but at the next competition, where he will push even harder with much more weight.

You can find people all along the way to help you, and mentor you. But they can’t make up your mind. Only give you direction. The thing is, that most of the people in your life will be “just passing through”, so you need to be the one who cares. You will have access to help, but in the end, it is you who is responsible for your thoughts.

So take the time now, and write down your goals. Something happens when you write them down. When you put your goals in writing it burns them into your mind. Write them down, and do not put them away. You need to read this everyday. When I started in Internet marketing I made a list of goals, and made it the background image of my desktop screen. I had to look at it every time I opened my laptop. When I started my online activities, I didn’t wonder around the net, because I was preparing my mind for what had to be done.

I made a business plan. I would join a marketing company that offered the most education possible. I would take all necessary steps to continue that education. And once that company started turning profits I would build my own business.

It grew and changed into several businesses, but the same goals were there. Every time one goal is reached, another is set. In the process of starting Chris Owen Academy, several goals were set, reached, and then more set. There isn’t a stopping point. If you are ever just satisfied with where you are at, you will stop growing.

It isn’t always painful growth though. Once you get over the first few bumps in the road, things get easier. It becomes fun. There is more to look forward to than the initial struggle.

There is great wealth ahead. All of your dreams are in front of you. Now you have the advantage.

Now you have the mindset for success.

Here’s to your success in all endeavors,

Chris Owen

I usually have a tendency to think somewhat harder in relation to almost everything after I look over someone new’s site and their observations. This along with other posts in your site here certainly offer some food for thought. Interestingly, Yahoo led me here while i was working away at weight loss and medical research. Glad that I hung around and I will make sure to add your url to my bookmarks so i can return later on. Thanks again!
