The Funny thing about results,
They are time sensitive.
Don’t believe me. Look throughout the history of just about anything. Life is like a fine wine; it only gets better with time.
If you try to blast your way into everything you do, and push too hard to get results, you will miss out on the simplest pleasure offered to you.
It’s called growth
The one true thing in life that you have the total control over. You can either soar with the eagles, or swim with the fishes.
Whether it be spiritual, personal or professional, growth is the most important aspect of your life you can focus on.
You have to be driven by a blazing determination to take it slow. Confused? Super motivated people can make a lot of things happen quickly, but failing to see the beauty of growth, often times leads to burning out before things really heat up.
They never reach their tipping point – That point where all your hard work and patience gains enough momentum to expand dramatically, in a short time.
Think about it
If you wanted to make things happen, would you pull your wife (or husband) out onto the dance floor to line dance to “the boot scootin’ boogie”… or gently lead her out to slow it down with Marvin Gay (personally, I prefer Kutless).
I know what your wife would say. Her heart beats faster when you slow things down.
Can you say, results?
Making changes today, may not make the difference today, but it will make the difference in time. Personal growth comes from personal experience. You can’t be afraid to step out, and be noticed, but you must be humble, and take notice.
Pay attention to the little things, and enjoy the small victories. The more enjoyment you get out of your personal life, business, family and especially your marriage, the more likely you are to stick with it for the long haul.
Why do so many businesses fail in their first year? Why does “News Years Resolution” mean the first two weeks of January? Why do so many marriages end in divorce?
It is because we have a natural tendency to overlook the small victories. As an expert marketer I managed to “land” my wife Tragena with a strong personal branding campaign, over a period of several years. I say land because in marketing terms, I had to convert her from a prospect, to a lead, to a new team member (for life). If not for my continued hard work and perseverance, she may have realized she was out of my league.
I celebrated each small victory. The second phone call, (the first is a story for another time), the first date, and the first kiss (which took nine years to happen)…It is all worth remembering. Especially when things are not exactly motivating. After you get in an argument do you think about the small victories, or the recent defeat? No one really wins an argument.
The shadow of Ego, darkens the image of beauty
You can quote me on that. I believe it 100% and so should you. A bad ego can ruin a good thing. Branding yourself is not about telling everyone how awesome you are. It’s about giving them the means to find out how totally awesome you are.
This is usually done by giving helpful, meaningful advice, and personal education in business. In personal relationships, being slow to speak and quick to listen is the key to branding a good image into their hearts and minds.
“If you help enough people get what they want, you will get what you want.” Zig Ziglar
Unless you are a member of the World Wide Wrestling Federation (or similar), ego is not profitable. It can even be self destructive in the long run.
Every single person in this world knows something that you don’t. The sooner you realize that, and begin to learn from it, the more successful you will become, and the more you will grow as an individual.
Final Thoughts
My priorities are God, Family, Business. When I get my priorities out of whack, I get whacked in the head by one of the first two (neither are subtle). Getting your priorities in order insures a healthy lifestyle all the way around. You can’t be at the top of your game in your business, if your home life is a wreck.
Results come in time, and success comes from results. Don’t give up because things are tough. Trying to climb a thin rope up a high cliff is extremely difficult. But tie several small knots in the rope, and suddenly things begin to happen. Think of those knots as your small goals. Helping you only a small distance each time, but all an important part of the slow climb to personal growth.

Hey man,
You hit the nail on the head again. I always remember a saying that it’s easier to eat an elephant in small bites (or something like that:)). I am as guilty as anyone of else of getting so caught up in things that I don’t take time out to appreciate the small things.
Another great one,
Eric
Hey Eric,
Yeah, I think most people only see the elephant as one giant object to overcome. Setting small goals (one bite at a time) and reaching them individually makes the task feel manageable.
And reaching several small goals give you several more victories to celebrate.
Eric,
I just came from your post today and had to add another reply for everyone.
Eric just added his post for today, along the lines of what I touched on here. But when I read the title and saw the picture, I could not stop laughing. Tragena even had to come see what I was laughing at.
Great job Eric
Hey Chris,
What an awesome post! There is so much to grasp from what you spoke about.
So many times I want something done so fast and I get it done. But only to realize I could have done it even better only if I took my time. I love what you say about ego…people need to read that again!
Thank you for mentioning my blog in your post!
Josh
Hey Josh,
They weren’t kidding when they said “patience is a virtue”
Sometimes I dive into something half cocked and only realize the damage it caused in hindsight. I guess hindsight really is 20/20.
Hey sweetie,
…along with priorities being in order!
Woooowww! From a woman’s perspective, this post is beyond words. Lots of things I could pull out to comment on! One of the best, I believe, is “The shadow of ego, darkens the image of beauty.” Amazing! From your wife’s perspective…yes patience and perseverance certainly do pay off
You have so much good stuff to share with the world.
I married a sweet genius!
Love you,
Tragena
Hey Tragena,
I think I got a little inspiration on this one that was deeper than usual. Must be from all that praying and waiting lately. I thought that line would be catchy as soon as it came out.
A lot of what I know about patience and perseverance I learned from you. But I think it is your unique ability to inspire people to do better that stands out most.
Love you
Chris – WOW. Can we hang out with you guys??
) … No really, can we?
This has really encouraged me, the small victories are SO important in my life right now, especially in the biggest goals of my life – closer to God, saving a marriage, being a good parent…. I have been blessed to read this, and I am going to post it and share it with all who are willing! I am even going to print out a copy to take home for Josh. I agree with Tray, the Ego/beauty line is my favorite, and I am making it my status on FB – but giving you full credit of course! And last… I love the picture you used… the relationship that you two have is trully a ministry in itself.
For the record, I have been reading your other posts recently and have been amazed, but this one just spoke to my heart and I had to let you know.
Love! Mandy
Hey Mandy,
Yeah we should all hang out some time. I am glad you liked this post. I was more excited than usual to publish this one. For the print and copy thing, I think it’s great that you like my advice enough to do that.
Hey, I think the “ego/beauty” thing is catching.
Great post Chris!
It’s like a great song — I feel like it was written for me
As someone who is:
a) a perfectionist
b) has a tendency to be impatient and
c) can have a bit of a “chip on my shoulder”…
This comes as a great reminder to enjoy the journey.
Thanks,
Derek
Hey Derek,
I am happy to see that this post is really making people think. That’s what I wanted to do when I wrote. To help people see that what they have already accomplished in life is something to celebrate.
Sometimes focusing too hard on future goals can make you bitter about today.
Hi Chris
Powerful stuff well put.
Its true that we don’t really take time to appreciate what we have achieved. I kinda had a similar post regarding gratitude, being grateful for what we have now.
Love your quote “The shadow of Ego, darkens the image of beauty”. I will be stealing that at some point (giving you credit for it of course).
Good stuff
Dwayne
Hey Dwayne,
Thanks for stopping by. You are more than welcome to use that line. I thought it came out cool when I wrote it, but it seems to be catching on more than I realized.
I have been reading over some of the work on your blog lately. Great stuff. I think I will dig for that gratitude post today.
Hey Chris, I am truly loving your writing style.
I love the Zig Ziglar line as well, that is one of my favorite quotes, next to a few from the Legend Jim Rohn.
Another big post for the week, i will be looking forward to your next post brother.
Hey Wayne,
I am a huge Zig Ziglar fan. I have 3 video’s in the free training area in mindset for success/setting goals. All three are from the same seminar he gave on goal setting.
I have been playing with my writing style a little with this site trying to see what gets the best response. This one’s looking good so far.
Thanks for coming by.
Hey Chris,
Great post man and nicely said. From this article I picked some really good gems. I too like the Zig Ziglar line, great call.
Catch you later,
Jerome Ratliff
Hey Jerome,
Thanks for stopping in. Yeah, Zig Ziglar is great. You should check out those video’s I mentioned to Wayne if you haven’t seen them.
Hey great post yesterday by the way.
I just wanted to put out a random comment, regarding some of the response I have gotten through social media, and several through email.
My wife and I have a beautiful relationship based on love and respect. We are very spiritual, and always look to God for answers. Using that as an example is great, but using us for a comparison is dangerous.
Don’t show this post to your spouse in a way that compares your marriage to ours. This post is meant to help you step back and take a look at what you can do personally to enjoy life a little more.
Comparing our life to yours is apples to oranges. You have everything you need to be happy right in front of you. My goal was to help you realize it.
Hey Chris,
I really liked what you wrote in your Final Thoughts.
“My priorities are God, Family, Business. When I get my priorities out of whack, I get whacked in the head by one of the first two (neither are subtle).”
I can really relate to that. Sometimes you get whacked so hard it knocks you off your horse and the dang thing runs off. That gives you plenty of time though to get your priorities back in order.
Definitely a RESULT that takes TIME though.
Awesome post man.
Chuck
Hey Chuck,
I know what you mean. It most often times happens to me when I try to become a man of success, instead of a man of value. I think Einstein said that first.
I don’t think we can be successful until our priorities are geared towards giving value.
WOW! Awesome article, Chris! I got a lot out of it and certainly will take it to heart. Thank you so much for linking me to it!
Have a blessed weekend!
Ilka
Hey Ilka,
Thanks for checking it out. I thought it would be right up your alley. I love the “Coffee Grounds” post you put up. Everyone should go by there and check that out.
